Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get an appointment?

Appointments are typically readily available. In-person medical appointments are preferred to be booked well in advance; however, appointments may be available the same week. For those who qualify, telephone renewals are available within 1 to 5 days.

How long are appointments?

Appointment duration can vary from 30 to 45 minutes. This depends on what level of certification you are applying for and whether or not you are a new client.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

  • A list of all prescription medications you’ve taken in the last 12 months, plus any over-the-counter medications and supplements. Please bring your prescription medications in their original containers, as the labels have all the details we need.

  • Your driver’s licence or other government-issued photo ID (for identification at your first appointment)

  • A summary of your medical history from your family doctor or specialists

  • Your last audiogram, ECG and fasting blood work results, if you have them

  • Your most recent eyeglass or contact lens prescription, if applicable

  • Your eyeglasses

  • Your contact lenses. Please don’t wear them to the appointment; you will put them in during the exam.

  • Your Aviation Document Booklet (ADB) with your current medical certificate, if you have one

Do I need to get any special tests done before my appointment?

Not typically. If you have not had your eyeglass or contact lens prescriptions renewed in a long while, this may be a good time to get them done before your medical examination appointment.

Are there any other appointments I need to set up for my medical certification?

Currently, if you require an audiogram, you will need to set up a separate appointment with the audiology clinic. It is best to have your audiogram done before your initial medical, if possible.

How much does it cost?

Fees vary based on level of certification and whether an ECG is required. Please contact Dr Lombardi for more information.

Do I need to have blood tests done?

No, unless Transport Canada has indicated to you that you need to do blood tests due to an underlying condition, such as diabetes.

What happens after my initial application appointment?

Once all of your documents are complete and the audiogram results are acquired, your application package is submitted electronically to the Toronto Office for Civil Aviation Medicine for their review.

How long does it take to hear back from Transport Canada?

Transport Canada has been experiencing significant delays in the processing of new applications. Priority is being given to Category 1 applicants. Response times may vary.
